The Quail Archive is the work of Emma Hadley, at Cross Bank Farm in Wem, Shropshire.
Cross Bank Farm is a Victorian smallholding where a small flock of quail has been kept, observed and studied closely over time. The archive began with a simple observation: that each bird lays eggs with a signature entirely her own, a consistent pattern language that no other bird in the flock replicates.
The Quail Archive exists to give those signatures the attention they deserve.
Each egg is selected, prepared and catalogued by hand. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is rushed. The archive grows slowly and deliberately, because that is the only way to do it properly.
Rooted at Cross Bank Farm, but created as its own quiet archive of natural signatures.
Laid, not made.
